84 12a street port project.

so i just got my old 1984 rx7 back from my buddy who bought it from me a while back. as she sits right now the motor has a street port, full raceing header and exaust, i have a 8 lb fuel pump installed, however she is running at 2-2.3 lbs of fuel pressure thanks to a regulator, obviously the next step to get more power out of her would be to get a larger carb so i can turn the fuel pressure up? what do u guys think.

if ur still running the stock nikki on it then yes u need to get another carb that will take advantage of the increased air flow thru the engine.

A modded nikki is more than adequate for a SP 12a.

+1 I run one on my SP and I love it. If you decide to keep the Nikki just mod according to sterlings site. www.sterlingmetalworks.com

Most people can't bore their own venturis on the nikki. I think the capability of having larger venturis on aftermarket carbs is nice. If it were I'd choose an aftermarket carb. Although you don't choose an after market carb just so you can "turn the fuel pressure up" like you said.

There is way more to it than that. The amount of fuel that a carb puts into your engine is not totally dependant on fuel pressure. The dellorto 48 only uses 2.5 psi but can feed a small bridgeported engine.

I'd look for a used weber or the like (mikuni, dellorto) and manifold. That's just me, I'm a weber fan. Although I don't disagree with my rotary bretheren who posted earlier, a SP engine can indeed run great on a modified nikki.
