83 Yaw carb issues mounting on SA intake

Hey guys,

I am having a small issue with mounting my 83 Yaw modified carb onto my 79.The issue is the throttle linkage up front for the oil injection rod is hitting the carb spacer.I know I can just trim the spacer, but I don't want to ruin my factory stuff in case some day I want to go back to stock.Have any of you guys run into this before?I just thought of using the carb spacer from my 83,but some of the vaccuum ports on the face are not the same as the 79 intake manifold. What should I do here.

I am really rethinking my plan of using this carb on here now,and my friend has modified a 89+ water pump housing to fit my 79,and I am having second thoughts on this as well. Also I wanted to go with a internally regulated alternator, but this is proving a little tougher than I wanted, and I really don't want to ruin such a nice factory car.I want the warning lights to still work, but I don't want to cut any wiring if I can help it.

Maybe I should just run my header, and dual exhaust, and a modern electronic ignition, and leave the rest of the stuff alone.

Use the 83 spacer. Your not using any of the vacuum accessories anyway. Also be aware that an FB carb on a 79 manifold, the return spring bracket can get hung up on the manifold. A bit of minor tweaking if necessary will solve it.

Thanks Cral,

I was hoping you would see this thread.I will be using a few vaccuum ports though, right?I already modified the throttle linkage so that it doesn't bind anymore, but the oil metering pump linkage was hitting the carb spacer.I guess the only vaccuum ports I will need are for the advance on the distributor, and maybe one or two for the rats nest removal setup so that I don't suffer from the oil fill neck condensation.Oh yeah I have a question about the 83 carb spacer. It is a bit different(it has a bridge between a few of the throats)due to the shutter valve on the newer cars, will this difference cause any problems? Thanks again.
