Question Is this 83 with problems worth looking at

I called on a 83 RX7 this morning, the body and interior are clean, but he says that when you start out the engine has no power. Once you get moving you can get up to speed but it takes a while. The engine does not smoke and the price is right but this engine problem scares me. Do you think this car is worth looking at?

depends on how cheap... if its like $300 heck yeah, go for it. a used engine(running) can be easily found for $800 or less. heck, you could get a 87? turbo gen 2 engine for $900. and you never know, it might be something as simple as a loose ignitor wire. pop it on and runs like a top. take a good close look at the engine. make sure you dont see oil seeping out tween the housings. look under the car to see if the oil had ever been violently vomited out the bottom. lol my car has a solid oil undercoat from front to rear cuz of the last engine. but i got it cheap. not running well is a heck of a bargaining tool. and heck, it looks like ive said heck 5 times already in this post, go figure!

I even seen an 85, that had the hose on the rear pass. side of motor have cracks in it. The one that goes from the air control valve to a valve or something on the exhaust... Help me here guys I forget the tech. name of the hose. But its a little 90 degree bent house in the back pass. side of the carb at the bottom. If its got cracks or anything in it, it will make the car run like total ****. I even did a carb. rebuild once cuz of this lil ****.

I'd be careful..unless you know a lot about 7's or know someone who does and/or you have a friend or cheap mechanic to help you....watch it...cause it could be minor but it may not!!....get some one who knows "7's" to check it with you.....what about all the other normal things on the car...a/c work, brakes ok?, hows the tranny , heat, wipers, power antenna , stereo....tires....seats..are they ripped?? , dash cracked...miles???...any maint records??? hows the compression...should be 30-60....do your homework...300.00 may sound like a good deal but if you put in 5000.00...maybe not...good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!cjf
