83 no motor/trans... what to do?

I have a bare car and I want it to make big numbers, I want to experiment with a T2 motor, standalone ECU and nasty turbo. It'll end up being a straight line performer. What reccomendations do you have for me? I don't know much about the 83 1st Gens and what's easy to swap into them. I'm getting the car for free, so please don't tell me to fix it and get a -SE. I want to know what I can do with this chassis. If a T2 swap isn't feasible... please tell me what is... It'll be a project car and I'm willing to be slightly radical with it.

TII swaps into first gens are become very common.
You should have no problem finding info on the net.
I own an 83 and also plan on doing a TII convertion. One worth while modification you may want to make is to swap axles with an 84-85 se. It would give you larger front brakes rear disc brakes and a limited slip diff. Also the 84-85 se axle is stronger. I have done this to my car and it was definetly worth it.

Lightbulb curiousity

How much rwhp can the stock gsl-se rear end hold? How much does it cost to get a Ford 9" or equivalent? I want to run a full bridged turbo2 13B.

The stock gslse axle wont hold much more than stock TII hp. The ford 9 inch would be a good choice. I have never price one out but if you have a pick and pull neat you shouldnt be much more than $100.00
