Questions on restoring a first gen.
My 85' GS is in stock condition and I wish to restore and modify her slightly.
My first question has to do with trim. Most of the rubber trim should be able to be peeled off, straightened again, and then re affixed, correct? If so, what adhesive should I use and what is the best method to straighten it?
My second question is for weather stripping. What is the best method for replacing this stuff. All of mine is dry, cracking, and/or broken. It causes nice leaks in the winter.
Thirdly, what is the best method for clearing out the rear hatch drains. I tend to find them clogged often. Luckly no water in my interior.
Lastly for now, most of the plastic trim should be easily found in a junk yard/mazda recycler correct? Does anyone know the prices for these things. All the plastic paneling for the back of my car is starting to get riped at the screw holes.
Thanks for all your help,
Chris

Super Newbie
I don't know about the trim. Try some 3M double sided tape to hold it on.
Buy the weather stripping from Victoria British.
Take a clothes hanger and straighten it out. Jam it down the hatch drains a few times and they'll open up.
Mazdatrix sells most of the plastic parts. Thats probably better than getting it from a junkyard, since you know it will be new.

Thanks Felix. Mazdatrix had most of what I needed. The only things they didn't have are the rear panels for the hatch area. Perhaps I can find some from Victoria British. Do they not have a on-line catalog?

Happen to have my new Victoria British catalog in front of me:
No online catalog, but you can order a free hardcopy at:
http://www.victoriabritish.com
or by phone
1.800.255.0088
Good stuff, fair prices
