Ok my 83 has been making this sound recently like for a week. It sounds like a low humming (like air being sucked) its been coming from the air hose on the drivers side that goes up to the air cleaning unit if i put my finger over it then it stops, but when uncovered it starts again. The only time it sounds louder is when i turn the car off then it sounds like the rotors inside the engine are touch bare metal awful!!! Can anyone give me some advise?? thanks

 

well, you shouldnt hear it if the air cleaner lid is on. if the hose is unplugged, plug it back in. that is unless you have an aftermarket carb. but if the lid is off, then the noise is normal.
