83 gsl stalling issues

babying the rpms i can get around town just fine in my GSL but if i really start to rev on it the engine starts to bog down, throttle doesn't raise the revs and it eventually stalls out. it will usually start right back up. is this ignition related

sounds like a fuel issue, if it was ignition it would happen all the time regardless of throttle. you probably have an exhaust leak or a vacuum leak somewhere causing it to run rich and bog, my cat is leaking pretty bad an i have to blip the throttle before taking off or it will bog and die.

either way check your plugs they will tell you everything you need to know. weither your running rich or whatever, and then go from there

another reason i think it is ignition related is my tach does not work until some time after the car is warmed up.

to me it feels like I'm not getting enough spark when my car needs it. so under high load its not burning the fuel and flooding the engine

just took for a quick test drive with new plugs and wires. its running noticeably better, and did not stall out but after i started shifting above 4 or 5 k, and really started to put it under load, i experienced the hesitation again, loss of power wouldn't rev up. after coasting briefly it returned to normal

one of the exits on the fuel filter was crushed. replaced the filter, problem seems to be solved for the most part

never mind just took it out and after maybe 3 miles it started again. the sound of the engine changes when the rpm hesitation happens

the sound was not all that clear to me, but i can tell you that at least one of your issues is your trailing ignitor is probably dead.

running better after replacing the trailing ignitor but its still bogging down and stalling out.

It doesn't seem to do it with a full tank, but after i put 50-80 miles on it comes back

maybe blow the fuel lines out and check the strainer in the tank.

althought these shouldnt be problems as the bowls on the carb and filled with gas and just mashing on the gas shouldnt make a difference at all,, maybe your carb needs to be tuned or cleaned, sounds like a jet issue. if your bowls up front were runnig less than half id say it was in the tank but if its jsut when you floor it its the carb. no doubt in my mind

not happening just when i floor it, just randomly as i approach a half tank, it happens from a cruise or even idle bogs really hard to eventual stall. has not been doing it when the tank is full though.

i ordered a carb rebuild kit, going to test the fuel pump with a dmm when i get a chance

Sounds to me like an accelerator pump on the carb. if the diaphragm is bad then when you mash on it or accelerate harder than normal you will get a stall.
