83 GSL LSD Problems?
Hello My lowish mileage (107,000 KM) 66,000 mile GSL (very clean, shows no evidence of abuse) just got stuck in the back alley while pulling it out of the garage in a warm spell here in Calgary. The rutted and frozen back alley challenged my 83, and I knew it would be NO Problem to creep over these ruts with my LSD, since I've owned 7, well one SA and 6 FB's and well, this didn't work out. The passenger side wheel spun and the outer just sat there, not even pitching in. I threw some dirt on the ruts and got my car back into the garage, but spun the one wheel for about 7 feet, the other wheel did not spin at all.
I bought the car 2 years ago and the LSD did chatter around tight corners, so I had an "LSD additive" added, the chattering was gone, have hardly driven the car since, and now it seems buggered..
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Welcome aboard - free bump! The LSD used in these cars, if factory, tended to last fairly well if they were lubricated properly and with the GM LSD additive, which you've done. If you were hearing the clicking, it may have been due to the clutch plates already being worn out, in which case you didn't have very good traction split to begin with.
Quick test is to jack up the back end (safely) and with the engine off and transmission in gear, spin one tire and watch the other side. If it freewheels the opposite direction easily, your LSD is blown out. If it tracks with the one you're spinning, you might just need to relube and re-additive. Post back,
