83 gsl diff in a 82 gs axle housing

From my understanding the diff should bolt into the housing but the axle flange won't match the driveshaft.

I am going to remove the axle flange from the old diff to install on the new diff.

The manual mentions preload on the diff. But it also mentions that the nut needs to be torqued to 130ft lb.

Am I safe by swapping flanges and torquing to 130ft lb or do I need to check preload and what is the proper procedure for checking preload?

Thanks!

I apologize, I believe this is the answer I have been looking for

It is not as easy as impacting one to the other
