83 fuel tank follow up

83 fuel tank follow up

I replaced my rusty old 83 fuel tank with one for 84-85. This tank will fit in an 83 but not the other way around. Slightly longer bolts are required to strap the tank back up.

The 83 fuel level sender will also fit this tank.I found some 7ml bolts to replace the crappy Phillips head bolts that broke off .

Unable to find a gsl-se fuel pick up I went with a in tank pump from Hyper fuel which fit well with slight modification to the tank.


I now will be able to switch to some form of fuel injection in the future. The system runs a pressure regulator and 3/8 high pressure rubber lines for feed and return.I used the old fuel line as the tank breather line. 6-an fittings were used where needed and a filter placed before the regulator.

Hope this will help others looking to go this route.

Nice work, i too went with different screws. The old ones just crumbled. SS with anti-seize should allow me to get it out if I ever need to.
