'83 flywheel in '85 GSL-SE

Hi. I have a GSL-SE that needs a new flywheel because some of the teeth are chipped and the starter pinion is missing quite often. There is a flywheel on eBay from an '83. I know that the clutch was upsized in '83 on. What I can't find, by searching, is whether this includes the GSL-SE, or if the GSL-SE has a flywheel size unique to itself. Can someone please clue me in to whether this will work?

Thanks,
Ben

The standard flywheel has the counter weight built into it so you can't use a 12A flywheel on a 13B engine.

thank you for the reply. my workshop manual does not indicate that the GSL-SE has a seperate counterbalance. i thought all the stock FB flywheels had the counter balance built into the flywheel. are you sure 13b's do not, including the SE?

and, if it didn't, could the '83 flywheel be used without installing the seperate counterbalance?

also, could you tell me if it is atleast the same size? if so, I could replace my ring gear with the one from the '83 flywheel.

That's what I'm saying... all stock flywheels have the counter balance built in. Hence you won't be able to use an 83 flywheel on your GSL-SE. Unless of course it's aftermarket.

Mazdatrix has the best flywheel cross-reference chart / photos that I've ever seen. It's in the 'How-to' section:

I see, because the built-in counterbalance is sized for a 12A, not a 13B...
