80amp S5 T2 alt swap into FB

I have a friend that has a 1st gen who recently did this and said he saw a big difference in a few things so I was interested in doing the swap as well. I'm getting one of these alternators from someone this weekend so I will be doing it soon. How hard is it to swap these out? Will it fit directly or will there have to be some custom fab work?

S4 Alternator is a direct swap and it is 70AMP, i think there is a how-to in the archive for the S5

+1^. There are threads in the archives that will help you out. A S4 alternator is good enough for me. I run between 13 and 14 volts all the time.

I'm already getting the S5 T2 amp because a friend is selling to me for $20. Are you saying this one isnt a direct swap?

80 amps is still on the low side..
when we modify your existing alternator, the amperage is close to double when you get it back..

remember you can never have an alternator thats too big, but when you start adding lots of electronic parts you can overload your factory 80 amp quickly

here is a link to the process we do to modify the alternators

Sounds like it's a pretty bad *** setup put, going from 80 amps up to 180amps + a polish and internal rebuild, $320.00 when I'm getting the S5 T2 for $20. I don't have much electrical stuff in my car and with the stock alt I have no it seems to be doing alright, I think 80 amps would be fine.

well just because its 20.00 dosnt mean its going to help you.. and how do you know its going to be fine? have you checked the amp load with all your accessories on? i didnt think so. so there is no way of you knowing an 80 amp will suffice..

with the aftermarket stereo you have, the amps, and the electric fan and you planning on installing power windows you really need an upgraded alternator!

With the amp load I have now everything is running fine.. so if it's upgraded to 80amps i'm sure it won't get worse but only better. I'm only doing this because someone else with an FB has power windows, power door locks, audio system just like mine and he saw a big improve when he changed to the S5 T2. So i'm sure it will be a good upgrade and handle it even better then it does now, not less.
