80 fuel strainer

Does any one know where to get a fuel strainer for my 80 rx7? I am hoping that the strainer is the reason that I keep destroying fuel pumps.
thanks,
Brian

maybe I should just take it off and see what happens. or I could match one up that fits the pick up tube if nothing else

Strainer? Do you mean the fuel filter or a mesh screen that catches the big bits of gunk?

What problems have you been having?

Only 84-85 Rx-7's have removable pick up tubes. All other years are solder to the tank.

Could have a plug fuel filter, plugged return line or a plug vent.

yeah I just pulled my tank and I see now that I cant take the strainer out. not that it matters. The thing seems to breathe just fine when I blow into it. I may mave a leak in the pick up tube I suppose. I have changed the filter a bunch of times. Largely because the old tank was full of rust. I have changed all the rubber hoses that the fuel pump needs in order to get fuel to the carb. the carb has been rebuilt... successfully the second time. the fuel pump replaced a whole bunch of times. and thats my reacurring problem. I keep eating up fuel pumps. I should be able to restrict down a fuel pump and not have that damage the pump so I dont think that a restriction in the line should be harming th epumps. I have a killed a fuel pump outta I dunno what, a stock pump, a holley red a I think 3 or 4 universal pumps of varying volumes and pressures. I dont know what else it can be. I had hoped that i could change a fuel strainer and be done with it but now I think it has to be the pick up tube. I think I will get a length of clear 5/16 in tubing and connect it to the pick up tube. If i hang the tube up and draw fuel up it then cap the end off making sure that there is no leak in mdy tubing then the fuel level in the tubing should never drop right? If how ever it does drop then I have a leak in my pick up tube. What do you think. Will it work? We'll see. and hey do any of you have a 84 85 tank for sale. this car is actually a 84 gsl. I just used the 80 tank cause I had one. or a whole 81 85 parts car?

well I think now that I have a leak in the pick up tube. I dont ever get a vacume on the tank so I dont think I have a venting problem. I also know that the return line is ok. Any how the car destroys fuel pumps about every 75 miles. I have replaced the fuel tank ( which was rusty) and put an 80 tank in teh place of the stock 84 tank cause thats what my 80 parts car had to offer. I replaced a bunch of fuel filters. cleaned or replaced all teh lines. rebuilt the carb ( sucessfully the second time) um jees everything and the thing stilll kills fule pumps. I might try attatching a clear tube to the fuel pick up line comming out of the tank and pull fuel up it before capping it off to see if the fuel level in the clear hose goes down. If it does then I think that should mean that the pick up tube has a leak... I think. I might as well. I have the takn out of the car right now so what the heck. By the way any one have a 84 tank. or maybe a whole parts car?
