79Rx7 Brake Booster where can I get one?
79Rx7 Brake Booster where can I get one?
This is my first post on this forum, but I have been lurking for a while so if this is misplaced I'm sorry. For a couple months now my brake booster has been out and I need to find a replacement or a rebuild kit. I have Googled for a 79 brake booster and several sites come up, but there rebuilt boosters and i don't want to take a shot in the dark without being sure that it will fit, I have made those mistakes before and it has cost me. If any of you can help me put this car back on the road it I will greatly appreciate it..... also where can I find a clutch slave cylinder rebuild kit too. Thank you
IDK much about the brake booster.. according to rockauto the brake booster they have listed for a 79 only fits in a 79 but idk about interchangeability. About slave cylinders just go to autozone and buy one there like 25$ for one with a lifetime warranty.. Get a new hose that goes to it as well or order the stainless steel braided one.

Rockauto is a good replacement parts store for many many cars.
Also, post up a WTB ad in the 1st generation parts section if you don't want that^

Just FYI the 1980 is a fit too, and slightly bigger so the boost (ie easier braking) is better too. I personally have NEVER heard of these failing so I would imagine one out of any decent wreck for $25 should do the job. For all the work involved it would be a good time to replace the Brake Master Cyl at the same time unless you KNOW its been done in the past 5-ish yrs. Since you'll be re-bleeding all three (yes, three) brakes on the install, I would also recommend a set of SPEEDBLEEDERS too as this makes one-man bleeding a breeze. FYI the REAR bleeder is diff from the Front brakes, so be sure the Speedbleeder guys are up to speed on this!!

rotarydude, is there a place where I can buy the rear seal? aws140 luckily no longer needs his brake booster so I might buy it from him, but still if I can rebuild this thing I can have a short summer project. Thank you guys for the help.

you can probably get a new master much cheaper and easier than rebuilding yours look at rock auto for the new master.
alot of people like black dragon but they are a re-seller of other peoples parts and you can find them cheaper.

I don't think so. I just swapped in a FB booster. It is only slightly bigger and still requires a good bit of "massaging" to get in. I initially planned on using a TII booster, but to put one in a SA requires relocating the clutch master. That's something I may do later, but not at this time.
O'Reilly has them. Usually can be ordered from the local DC overnight for no charge.
