'79 RX-7 radiator rebuild
Hi team, I'm located in the South of France. I would like to get my OEM copper/brass radiator re-cored. Do you guys have any recommendations on people who can do this ? I've seen online that there are some vendors who can supply copper cores with better cooling than OEM any experiences with these ? Cheers
In the US, the number of places has dwindled over the past few decades, due to newer cars having moved on from copper, however, you can still find shops that can service and re core copper radiators. I wasn't aware that it might be to the point where you have to send your radiator off to some place, just to have it fixed.
I don't live in a large city, but still have a muffler / shock / general mechanical shop local to me that also boils out and pressure tests radiators. They can re core them but the cost usually pushes most to source a generic, new aluminum replacement.
$700 vs. $200 is a significant price difference. It might be better to source a still serviceable, used, OEM radiator from one of the online places that part out cars?

There are a few vehicle restoration companies here who would be able to re core mine, although it may be slightly more expensive (and ill have to send it away) Im trying to keep the car in it's absolute original 1979 condition...its a one owner from new with original paint, wheels, upholstery etc and only 45,000 kms. I did a bit more looking around and there are some shops that offer better performing copper cores that can be welded to the OEM tanks and still look stock. . If I go this 'more expensive' route I'll post the results. Thanks again.
I completely understand and agree with your desire to keep it stock appearing. Not trying to say you should do otherwise, just explaining the current state of affairs. If you're willing to spend the extra money, I'd just have the current one re cored. It will just be expensive.
The next best solution and probably cheaper, is to find another stock rad, still in serviceable condition. Can take a bit of looking, but they are still out there, plus you can run the risk of it being bad too when pressure checking it. Car looks very nice! Curious, what is the S/N? SA22C- ???? Black interior?

I just saw your previous thread where we discussed your S/N and what year your car was. Didn't realize right off that this was that car. I was actually the one who alerted Daniel from Germany about your car and he provided some clarification to the registration process over there in that thread.
