79 gt?
searched and didnt find what i was looking for. i recently saw a 1979 rx-7 GT her ein town. it was white with red interior and in pretty good shape. i was jsut wondering if the GT was a special breed of SA. what were the differences between a normal 79 and the GT?

i have never heard of one either but it had GT logos on it and the owner said it was a GT like it meant something....i jsut dont know what it could mean. it was lhd like ours and no special interior gadgets that i could see...but im not too familiar with the 79-80 models

I can't help with the GT question though.

you'd be better off posting pics to help determine exactly what you're looking at. most likely someone just slapped an aftermarket "GT" badge on the car because they thought the badge would potentially add 35hp...

GT was the JDM equivalent of our GS here. One of FIVE SA models offered in Japanese market! Equipped exactly the same as GS except features like fender mirrors, no power antenna (was built into fr windshield a la GM) and rear seats. The "GT" badge mounted where our SA's "Rotary Engine" badge was in the rear. If you want to see if its a "real" GT then it would be RH Drive and there will be NO hole in the rear deck for the antenna. Check fr left fender for "SavannaRX-7" badge. Chrome-colored rear license light bodies another clue... GT was only offered in Japan.

some north american dealers changed out wheels or added the front airdam or rear spoilier and put gt badges thinking they could make more money. but their was no north american 1st gen gt other than some dealers adding stickers or badges
