I've never heard of a GT. The '79 had just two models...the base model (S) and the upscale model (GS).

The white Savanna SA that i perted out had the GT badge on the rear. I think it was mainly on the JDM cars.
For the record Savanna SA's are crappy compared to Aussie delivered SA's

There was also a Limited Edition in '79
(lots of photos HERE)

I can't help with the GT question though.

Yes, RHD it had the plugs where fender mirrors would have been and side repeters in the front guards, the chrome licence plate lights, 180kph speedo (Aus delivered has 210kph)

you'd be better off posting pics to help determine exactly what you're looking at. most likely someone just slapped an aftermarket "GT" badge on the car because they thought the badge would potentially add 35hp...

Was that a 79 tho FibreMaz? I've heard of the 83 and newer GT in j-spec format, but nothing other than that I think. I read once about a possible 79 GT I think, but not sure on that.

Not even, it was a 1978 model so probably one of the first to get to Australia but wouldn't have been landed and sold until '79

GT was the JDM equivalent of our GS here. One of FIVE SA models offered in Japanese market! Equipped exactly the same as GS except features like fender mirrors, no power antenna (was built into fr windshield a la GM) and rear seats. The "GT" badge mounted where our SA's "Rotary Engine" badge was in the rear. If you want to see if its a "real" GT then it would be RH Drive and there will be NO hole in the rear deck for the antenna. Check fr left fender for "SavannaRX-7" badge. Chrome-colored rear license light bodies another clue... GT was only offered in Japan.

some north american dealers changed out wheels or added the front airdam or rear spoilier and put gt badges thinking they could make more money. but their was no north american 1st gen gt other than some dealers adding stickers or badges
