78/3 RX7 Found

I found a 78/3 RX7 in a yunk yard it still has everything its a complete car just some rust it is silver with black interior it seems to have wery few miles somebody interested I am sure the dude would agree to sell it for next to nothing.

If I had the money I would get it since it is such an early date car but I am about to buy a house and really need to save up some more money.

Why would it have mirrors on the fenders? I have a '79, built in March 78, and it has a single mirror, on the driver's door.

that and the hood prop on the right side on the HOOD are what makes an early build (sa22c-500001 to sa22c-531148) sa22...

That is incorrect. You are right about the hood prop...that is on the right side, but I have SA22C-501090 (original owner), and there is one outside mirror, on the driver's door.

It should only have a drivers side mirror ... a true 79 did not have a mirror on the passenger side.

There were 3,300 cars exported to North America with the 3/78 build date. While the offical launch date was 24 April, most were presold to eager buyers. Unallocated ones fetched a handsome premium.

Mazda had planned to sell the base model for under $6,000, but at the last moment the US $ fell in comparison with the yen and the starting price increased to $6,395. That is about the same as the asking price for one in good condition over 25 years later!

That's exactly what I paid for mine...$6395. After all the dealer prep and other crap the total was right at $7000. I took delivery on May 24, 1978...second one ever sold here in Cedar Rapids.
