Hey, I’m not going to sugar coat it for you. And I could careless if I hurt you little feelings. Besides, I’m just busting your *****. We all like our 7’s and we all want them to be worth 1 billion dollars.
That’s not going to happen, unless you have the very first 7 to ever roll off the assembly line and it’s never been driven.

And then it would be worth 8k……haha!!

The thing that bothers me most about this appraisal, is the fact that the car does not have the factory wheels. The '80 LS came with gold colored alloy wheels. Look in the spare tire well, and see if there is one there. If there isn't, you need to find a set of 5 of these uber-rare wheels, to claim the car is all original. It is not original with those aftermarket wheels.
On the other hand, if you also have all 5 of these original wheels, then you do indeed have a rare find.

Sold. Bring me that car and you can laugh to the bank

If the car is in appropriate original condition it is worth the money. Modifications can also increase value, but never reflect the full cost. Good condition RX-7s are extremely rare, and the cost of restoration can easily be > $8,000. Unfortunately, too many have been neglected...and worse.

Insurance is not a problem, e.g. 1983 RX-7 insured for $20,000 ~$150/year, and 1985 for $12,000, full coverage.

Yes, I agree the aftermarket wheels look better. Make sure you hang onto those stockers though. Storing them indoors if at all possible.

Grundy and Hagerty have worked out for me, but you might have difficulty due to your age. You will need to have another car as a daily driver. Here is a list of specialty insurers to try:

What yo need to do is get another beater to drive, keep your Sa and have it listed as a secondary vehicle. The rates are cheaper. And yes keep the vehicle, you will kick yourself if you dont. And don't worry about what people would be willing to pay there is always someone in the end that is willing to pay for a nice original car. You just won't find it here from all the cheap bastards, lol.

By the way i can appreciate an original 7 because i have one and even if i didnt i appreciate an original more than most of the modded ones i see. why? Because they do not fix their upholstery, most of them with repaint jobs are crap and those with original paint don't know how to properly restore the paint. But they say," I am going to put a TURBO in it". I say, "Yeah right, about 20% actually finish there project car and then it's still got shitty uphosltery and faded paint, lol.

far as I have heard about calculateing insurance, things like years with a license, wheather or not you have gone to driveing school and where you live are key points. even though your friend has several accidents he might have had his license for a longer time.

My brother has been in several accidents, has had his car stolen several times. He has had his license about twice as long as me. At the moment I am at a step 10, no accidents no speeding tickets and then the words that follow are unexperianced driver. His experiance is at the highest level, yet hes got lots of surcharged points, this hurts him big time. He is ranked by the same insurance company as step 9 experianced driver.

I was also told by my insurance company that after I prep the car up and get it painted and on the road. I can get it appreaised no matter what mods are on the car. I really didn't pay alot for my ride. My only expectation is once I finish and get it appreasied provide proof of the cost of all the parts I have added. Hopefully they will add that to the original appraisal of the car.

Food for thought.......

If you get your car insured for $15000 and get into an accident thats your fault and your car is totaled, check with your insurance company to see how many surcharged points will be added. I am not sure but I think that in Massachusetts, once you go over $1000 in damaged surcharge points will be added to your license. It would suck if you got $15000 insurend and then totaled it. In the end if it was your fault you will end up paying that money back in surcharged points.

Do you know this turbo guy? If not I will be happy to recommend that he be banned for a while.

Classic car insurers, Like the ones posted before, will sale guranted value insurance, Meaning they will pay XXX for the car if It is wrecked.

The LS is a rare car and someone looking for a good one would pay more, But I dont believe they would pay 15K, 5K may be tops on the car, and it would be from some one who really wanted one.

Our values are starting to move up on the origonal low miles cars, but all I ever find is high mileage crap. couple that with people who will not wait on the true value of a car, and you get Our prices being somewhat low.

There is a very rare car in the sale forum now and has been up for about a year, well worth what he is asking but to high for most of us.

I have no clue who that turbo guys is.
I’m thinking about hang inning onto it for a will. The car has 67,400 original miles on it. If I ever thought about selling how much do you think I should ask for it, just curious on your thoughts? Like everyone said before I will be kicking my self over it later if I sell it.

Right now I’m looking for another car to get me threw the winter and to keep the miles off of the 7. Plus it will lower my insurance. Any good recomends on any car that has good mph I should look at getting.

Also does any one knows were I can get the price sticker for a car, like the ones at the dealer ship. Just for the purpose of taking it to car shows with my 7. But it would have to have the same options that my 7 has.

Same thing I recommend to any college student, a Honda.

I would really need some detailed pics of the car to really give you price but 3.5K might would sale and It would have to be on ebay to do that.

Dont paint it unless it is really bad off, That sends the value right down.

If you get really close to the car you can see the touch up that was done because of rocks. The two rust spots on the sunroof and the rear passenger side are easily noticed by me any way.

Right now the market is soft as far as certain cars. Just hang onto it and don't drive it in the winters.

Your mileage is about what my 82 has on it. The car is so clean that the undercarraige paint in the center tunnel is still polished.

As far as a economical car to drive. I would say a Honda Civic 4 door Lx model with the 1.5 liter V-tec. The reason i mentioned 4 door is because of your age and the fact that hondas are a high theft car for parts. A 4 door will have a lower temptation for theft. But whatever you decide to get, check with your insurance Company for rates BEFORE you buy it.
