Ive got 4's in the front and 6's in the back (stock loc). Enough music to bleed the ear. 6X9's in the door would be terrible, sound would hit you from the side and low, dynamics would be terrible, would have a flat spot in the front. IMHO

Why would you want to hack your doors all up to do that?
I have seen it done, and unless you are very careful and very skilled it looks awful.
20 year old cardboard and vynel are not too nice to work with.

love the braaaap
If sound quality is low at higher volume, I would suggest some better speakers. The location doesn't have much to do with the sound quality at one volume compared to another. If it was the location, they would sound bad at any volume.

The reason why they dont sound good is probably because they dont have enough room to revrberate behind the walls or in the boxes. i have 6x9's in the rear, and they have the entire space between the inner wall and outer shell, and still dont pump out much bass.
You should put bass blockers on them, 100% for sure, and route all bass to your subs.

i have an awesome system in my car. it sounds great and i definately put some money into it. all i did was replace the factory speakers. 4" in the front and 6.5" in the rear. my choice is audiobahn. they are great speakers and afordable if you buy them on ebay. power them with a good amp mounted in the storage space behind the seats and it should be as loud as you want. if you do a good job then it will look factory. if that doesn't give you enough bass then just go with a sub. you have room in the back hatch for all you need if you don't mind sacrificing the space. i just have one 12" which is more than enough in such a small car. if you have to use the 6x9's then just put them in a box in the back. i would definately bolt them down so you can still throw your car through the turns but that might require drilling holes in your carpet. do you still have the factory stereo? that was the first to go in my car. just about any speakers you put in won't sound great without replaceing the head unit and/or a good amp. if you want specifics email me. i will be happy to help.
