6 port running on 4?

I had a friend who's into rx7s look at my newly aquired GSL-SE and he was poking under the engine and reved it a bit and said he doesn't think the 5th and 6th ports are opening up. Now, he said by running a tube from the exhaust he could get preasure to them and thus open, but, would they open without being under load anyways? How could I confirm that they are or are not opening?

Just saw this https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...threadid=94310 thread as well, I have the racing beat header and exhaust system (or one of the models at least) so it would be interesting to find out. How would I manually force the secondaries open to see if I notice a difference to confirm that they are infact opening by themselves under load before running any additional piping?

They will not open while revving. You must be under load, like you said.

Gah. The front one works, the one on the rear, closest to the firewall doesn't. I took off the pump and check it, it's fine. The little lever going to the ?intake manifold? doesn't move tho, so it's something internal. Any pointers or ideas?

They get clogged with carbon, etc. Try to *CAREFULLY* move it back and forth until it loosens. If not, remove the manifold, lubricate, and clean.

Is any of that engine cleaner/injector cleaner/fuel system cleaner stuff they sell that you're meant to add to your gas useful in this situation or is it a no-no in wankel land?

Using an airpump I've now got the 6th port stuck open. The 5th port operates perfectly, the 6th is always open, and again, are fuel system cleaners a no-no?

Not recommended. Too many old brittle rubber parts inside a rotary. The 5th and 6th ports have noth9ng to do with the Fuel system.

It works off of the exhaust backpressure (about 2.8lbs) of pressure. They usually get clogged with carbon (from the exhaust) and that's why they clog in the 1st place.

So if one is opening and closing fine I'm presumeing it's also flowing correctly, now if the other was stuck closed and is now stuck open, should I still take the intake manifold apart and clean it up or is it basically good to go in an always on state?

Got it working!

I removed the actuator pump as not to damage it and using some pliars began gently trying to move the lever back and forth, after a while it started to go a bit more, eventually all the way, altho very stiff in some spots. After working it back and forth for about 45 minutes it's as free as the front one, awesome!

i did the same test and had the same results as you, 5th good, 6th stuck shut. back to the question though, i assume that leaving the 6th open would be alright?

I noticed that the car sort of surged when it was stuck open if I was below ~3k rpm, once it was fixed it went back to normal. I've yet to get to talk to the guy who did all the work on the car, but I have a sneaking suspision that it's streetported based on idle and how it rips away from my buddies 84 GSL-SE, so, that may have contributed to the surging with it stuck open.
