5 spd tranny qustions
Has anyone seen a tranny rebuild kit?? I have a five speed and it seems the syncros are gone?? or does the stock tranny not use them?? I also have a pretty pronounced vibration in the shifter handle does anyone know what this may be??
haha the lsd is great>> just found out a few days ago i had an lsd and had to whip out the rear a few times to test it out hahahahaaaaaa

Before you look to rebuild the tranny, make sure that your tranny mount is in good shape (doubtful). These wear out pretty badly and result in a lot of weird vibrations. Does it shift okay, or is there a lot of grinding involved (sign of bad synchros)?

Check out the 2nd gen forum, with a search. There is no 'kit' available, but there are some resources listed for parts.
Vibrating shifter can be caused by bad tranny or motor mounts, bad shifter bushings and even a rough idle if any of the other parts are worn, including u-joints.

Rebuild "kit"
check http://drivetrain.com/mazdaendload4_5sp.html.
You will need a rebuild kit and syncro ring kit to get allmost the bearings and synchro's.
There are two caged bearings and the main shaft nut that you will need to get from a mazda dealer. The dealer can also supply new shift forks and a new front bearing retainer.
It will cost about $350-$400 to get all the bits and parts for a rebuild.
As to the vibration, look to you U-joints, they are probably worn and no longer hold the driveline perfectly centered.

Another useful trick for when your synchros start grinding: Drain fluid and replace with a mixture of 50/50 Gear Lube/ATF. The detergents in the ATF are very good at cleaning up the synchros and getting them working again. This is a trick I learned from "how to hotrod and race your Datsun". I have done this in the past, and it works great. Saved me from a rebuild more than once...
