4x114.3 wheel options

I have a GSL-SE based Locost 7 (Lotus 7 clone - see avitar) and am not finding much of a wheel selection. For NASA Se7ens Challenge and trackday use I need a set of lightweight 15x7 wheels with around a +35 offset. Any suggestions? How do the center bores compare on the 2nd Gen 4x114.3 RX-7s and the Nissan 240sx (s13) to the GSL-SE?

Is redrilling to the 4x100 Miata bolt pattern an option (center bore?)? As 4x100 wheels seem to be much more common than 4x114.3mm (4x4.5").

[yes I did search]

Thanks,
Grintch

Well for a set of NEW rims, that are actually made for racing, you need to check out http://diamondracingwheels.com/ . They make rims to fit your needs. Also the Toyota AE86 wheels fit, the Z/ZX cars fit, and Also the baby supra/celica. I dont know anything about the 240sx, but if it has the same pattern, they will work. The 2nd gen (how few there are) that were 4X114.3 work as well. Hope this helps. Oh one more the www.mariahmotorsports.com
They carry GOOD racing wheels such as SIMMONS and PANASPORT, and they order them to size as well. Give them a call, they are really great people to talk to, and very helpful.

I actually have Diamond 13" wheels for autocrossing. The standard availible backspaces push the tires well out of the rear fender (bad for aero & squeezing between cones). But I guess I'll look at what using their "FWD" pattern wheels can do in terms of offset. Downside is that the FWD pattern and the 15" size are much heavier than the 13" RWD wheels.

As for new Alloy wheels, there are a lot of 15x6.5 listed but 15x7 is much thinner. And often, when you try to find someone who actually has them so sale, you find that while 4x114.3 wheels are listed by the manufacturer, no one has anything but their 4x100 brothers availible.

look for any wheels that have a UNIVERSAL 4 BOLT pattern, which is 4x100, and 4x114.3 (4.5)

Yep, I'm the tall guy that also has the WRX STi (it's MUCH easier to drive than the 7). Are you the guy with the grey/silver FB? I will be running again on the 30th but not the night Autox on the 29th. What offset & width are the 240 wheels? Pics?

Another part of the problem is the smaller diameter wheels are out of fashion. If I wanted 17x7 I wouldn't have any problems, but I need 15" wheels to optimize my tire selection with my overall diameter restrictions.

i dont run on the scca course. i was going to start this year but i just couldnt find the time. i think you are thinking about kingbob he has a silver 1st gen and a blue rx2. ive hung out done there before tho, im friends with mark(the really tall guy with the red 2nd gen). the rims i have a stock 240sx wheels so i imagine the offset is about 40 mm. i can get pics if you want.

and rotarychick those rims look nice except for the rivets, i had a set like that and it was always a PITA to clean around the rivets. but they do look awesome tho

So when are you going to get Mark to stuff a LS1 in your RX-7?

What is so time consuming about autoX? You show up, run, and work. The seat time to work time trade off isn't great (track days are much better), but you don't really need any car prep and the events are just across town. TAC has a driving school at the begining of the season thats great to get you up to speed, I highly recommend it if you have any interest in cars.

Are these the ones you have? http://www.wheelspecs.com/specs/wheelmodels/1740

Looking at the 240SX OEM wheels, they all look too narrow and heavy for what I have in mind (I already have one set of heavy 15x7's wheels that I plan to use for street use after I put lights on the 7 and get it registered).

Oh yes, for those that suggested the AE86 and 280Z wheels, while they bolt up, the offsets are very low (-4 to +12 range). Thus making it impossible to fit wide tires in my fenders. So far it looks like Rota GT-3's (no not in Red).

lol yeah i think ill stay rotary for a little while longer, alothough his car is a blast to ride in.

those are not the same 240 sx wheel i have, mine are the ones that have the teardrop shaped holes. yeah the rotas sound like a good idea. i had a set of rota slipstreams on my civic and loved them. hopefully ill be able to get involved with scca next year. i know mark and matthew have been trying to get me involved this past year but i havent been able to break away from everything else. i dont know what the requirments are but if i do it im going to be there for evry event. matthew was telling me they have a weekend long training school that will help me out alot and allow me to get my license for about $200 so ill probablly do that. they have a run the last week of this month(29-30th) right? if so ill try to make it down there.

Sounds like you are confusing Solo1 (now Time Trials) with Solo2 (Autocross). The TAC driving school (autox oriented) is only $30, and no licence (other than a normal drivers licence) is required to autocross. These are what you see out at the old airport. Very accessible to participate in. There is a night event Oct 29, followed by a regular day event the next day. I will be at the day event (night event is non-points, and the 7 doesn't have lights), come by and I I'll give you a ride along.

Solo1/Time Trial are more like a track day/HPDE and are run at a real track. They required a licence for Solo1 and the more advanced Time Trials. Plus your car needs additional safety equipment. $200 sounds about right for the Solo1 school they ran at Talledega in the spring.
