44-45-48-wtf

The numbers preceeding a carb is the size of the venturi in mm correct? Now I'm just wondering what is considered to be a big size? Is 48 large and anything above it massive? Is 44 to small on ported engine? Does it depend on the style of carb side-draft/down-draft? Nikki/Holley/Weber and so on?

And on top of all this isn't the venturi replacable?

If you want to say go, mild street port/mild turbo on a blow through down draft. What size should it be and so on. Just was curious about what fits, what sort of situation.

Your numbers 44, 45, 48 are for a Weber type carb. Thats the throttle bore size not the venturi size. The venturis are reffered to as chokes. On a Weber type they are replaceable.

I say weber type because other carbs are very similar in design. Mikuni, Dell orto.
