I'm looking for a scan of the 1979-1980 radio bezel. Just bought a Bambu Lab X1 Carbon and have been trying to model my own in Fusion 360 with limited success.

Just found out the QC department at my job has a scanning arm. I have experience in another brand of scanner, one of these days I will try to get some training on it. We have a nice FormLabs 3XL printer here and I have printed some seat belt extenders for the Miata, the resolution is awesome.

Hopefully one day I can get access to it... Are the bezels the same as the 79 LE? I only have access to S1 and S2 not S3 parts for now.

It's cool you have access to a nice scanner. I tried MarkerWorld's, https://makerworld.com/makerlab/ai-scanner, AI scanner where you take your phone and walk around the item. It took three hours to render and the quality was iffy.

The 1979 LE bezel is the same.

I wonder if you need an IPhone for it. I know there is LiDAR on some IPhones which makes it a ton easier.

EDIT: Thanks for clarifying on the gauge panel similarities. Give me a month or so and I will see if I can slip a scan in for you. Need to pull the surround off the LE first, this gives me a reason to check on the storage place anyway.

If you need a storage box for the bezel I have one I can send you. I have several.

When you say radio bezel, are you speaking about the stereo surrounds? The LE cars came with different stereo systems than the S and GS cars. The surrounds are indeed different. A standard radio configuration surround:

The LE panel surround:

My goal is to make one that will hold a 7" double din right under the climate controls and some gauges in place of the switches and cig-lighter. If I can get a scan any 1979 factory one, I can us CAD to make the other factory viations. I have a couple of the 1979 GS one.

I have this, although I had never planned on selling the 3D file as it's not perfect. I modeled this one up a while ago myself and run it in my SA. While it does fit, it's not a scan and as such isn't 100% accurate, although you'd be hard pressed to see the differences without really scrutinizing it.

If you're interested feel free to reach out and maybe we can figure something out. I have fully blank as well as progressively more OEM switch/cutout populated versions as well. The one pictured below has cutouts for my gauges and lights.

12544423[/url]]Scanning was a huge pain. I was able to model a few simple parts myself, but my $1000 dollar hobbyist scanner was nearly useless for more complex curvy bits. I wound up paying a local engineering shop to scan a bunch of parts and give me a clean, watertight model.

I still have to do some small modifications to the CAD models, but I've been doing some test prints in hobbyist plastic to check dimensions/fitment, and it's going pretty well. I'm considering selling printed parts if I can get good robust parts to print in abs.
I was going to say, for larger things using pythagoreas and figuring out how the curve translates to a rational function on a graph might work. But maybe not with the curves of the radio bezel and a caliper lolol. I won't lie, I wouldn't go through that trouble after a long day at work. I think I recently bought some stuff from you, so it's nice to connect on the forums!

I've been doing test prints on my 3D printer in abs plastic - I'll update some more later if there's interest!

Hey, do you have these files available, or are you willing to sell them? I 3d print fairly often, and would like to replace some of the brittle/broken parts on my 84 if possible!

Hey, yeah I've been selling the unaltered versions - They're super high quality scans and can actually be 3d printed without any extra work, although you can see in the pics there is a small piece missing from the top half of the steering bezel because the one I scanned was broken. If you want to msg me privately here or on instagram @thatrotaxcar (i dont check here as much) we can discuss more, but I've been asking about 100 per scan, sometimes less for multiple scans
