2nd impressions...

Well, I took the FB out tonight for it's second drive.

The engine seems to be good... Idles nice, revs up nicely. However, driving is a different story entirely. It feels like it's driving on a flat tire. Of course, it was sitting for a year or so, so I figure the tires are for ****. Next, it feels like it's dragging it's ***... The engine is willing, but it feels like there is sludge in the rear-end, or that it's pulling a trailer. Maybe the exhaust is clogged... It reminds me how my T2 felt before I got the RB turbo back. The flat tire feeling continues to the steering... Straight is good, curves, it fights a bit... Yes, I know it has manual steering... That's all well and good. I figure the bushings are shot, as well as the shocks, struts, and springs.

It stinks to high heaven, too. The interior smells like a 20 year old car that sat for a year, so that will be remedied when I put in the all new interior. The exhaust smells like the go-karts I used to drive around with my Dad when I was a kid.

Well, nothing a new engine, rear-end, transmission, suspension, interior, and paint job can't fix.

Would the rear brakes freeze up if the guy left it sitting for a year with the ebrake on?

Not that it really matters, I already have a disc brake LSD rear-end on the way... Just curious if that's why it's got the ***-dragging feeling.

Could be, but I doubt it. If the drums were really frozen, the car wouldn't move. It's more likely you have a clogged cat or something of that nature.

The inflation on the tires is fine... I just figure they're flat spotted. I am going to get different wheels and tires, so I'm not really going to sweat it. I guess I will go with a RB exhaust and see if that solves the *** dragging problem.

Jack up the rear end and see if the tires will rotate freely. Sometimes parking brakes will stick, or the cable will which amounts to the same thing. Might be able to feel whether or not there is tension when you move the brake lever back and forth.

And for the sloppy front end and dead steering, check this out http://p-s-t.com/fekpgimp.html I'll be ordering one in a few days for myself.

I'm thinking that might be the culprit, because it just dawned on me that the "BRAKE" light in the gauge cluster stays on, even with the handle for the ebrake down.

Yeah, sounds like a seized p-brake to me. As for the smell, welcome to the FB smell (the go-kart thing, not the stinky thing).

You probably also have clogged/bad cats, from the sounds of it.

I had to replace my rear calipers because the ebrake was stuck on for a while. This wouldnt allow the car to roll very well to say the least. You might as well do a full brake job, new pads and bleed them.
