2nd gen stereo/EQ in 85 GSL?

I posted this on the audio section already. Can I install a second gen tape deck/EQ in an 85 GSL? I have the stereo an see that the harnesses are different and the mounting holes dont line up. Has anyone done this?

I wanted to do this a while back and from what I've been told, the 2nd gen stereo is too large to fit in the stereo pocket on the 85.

I think I can get it to fit with some cutting and bending. It's the wiring that concerns me. I need am wiring diagram for both models.

Thanks for the diagram. I am currently searching for a second gen diagram. Found one on an 88 convertable but it is a bit different I think. More help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You could be real cool and find a working CD player from a 2nd gen and put that in.

Yes, an FC radio system will work fine!

Yes you can do it. I put in an 88 AE system with am/fm cassette and equalizer. The black face looks better in my grey/black interior. Wish I could have found a good CD.

Just use the metal framing from the SE, i.e. move the components from the FC to the FB metal frame. All the connectors worked fine as is except one. I had to move one pin (LW I think) from J-04, tape it off and put in a different one--can't remember which one. It was obvious cause nothing worked until I did the rewire.

FYI both the wiring diagram and the FSM have sections on the audio system--use them.

The harnesses in my GSL are actually different from the diagram posted. I only have one six din connector. It splits into an 8 din connector that probably goes to the joystick and then the amps. Is the stereo different in an 85GSL vs. the GSL-SE? Do I have two amps that run off one din connector rather than seperate din connectors for each amp? I also have a 4 pin white electrical connector that is not shown in the diagram. The car came with no stereo, but the wiring harnesses are intact.

I checked the date sticker on the 2nd gen deck. It's an 89. The harnesses are totally different from my 85 connectors.

Ok, I have done lots of searching. I believe I have everything except a diagram of the single 6 pin DIN connector that goes into the 85 stereo. I don't have 2 like the diagram above. It definately splits to the amps from the joystick. ( after it goes from 6 to 8 pins through a small connector) I need that diagram if it exists.
