2nd gen rear end in a first gen

I know I saw a post on this recently, just wandering if anyone has done any digging on this topic. I love my first gen, but would love to improve the handling.

The First Gen is a live rear axle.
The Second Gen is IRS (Indepedant Rear Suspension)

Anything is possible, but it would be a very custom job. A lot of fabricating and such.

For the Trouble, I'd rather have a 3rd gen suspension or Corvette one.

Personally, I don't think it is worth it, as the First Gens can easily be made to handle awesomely with a few upgrades and tweaks.

yeah, i'd have to agree with directfreak ...

the Gen II suspensions are nice, but it probably wouldn't be worth the trouble (and money) to do a conversion to a Gen I, especially since there ARE better systems out there.

you're better off investing in a GOOD system for the Gen I and some GREAT tires! then dial it in to your own driving tastes. when done right, they can run with the Gen II cars without feeling so much more squirrelly.

Ya, your right. I think I will invest in some nice spring, shocks, sway bars, bushings and tires.

I still wonder if anyone has done independent in a first gen and how much it cost them.

a few have done 3rd to 1st IRS conversions. For drag racing *nudge nudge, DF* it won't make much difference. If you like flying through corners like I do it might be worthwhile. The 5 bolt pattern and beefier brakes couldn't hurt.
