2nd gen radiator in a first?

I have a second gen radiator that im about to put into my first gen. i was wondering if anybody has done it.... my other radiator had a leak and i couldn't find a replacement... i also believe the 2nd gen radiator is dual core instead of single??? I have all the metal needed and have started to work on it, i think im goin to have to get an electric fan so it cools better but other than that it looks like i can make it work... give me some input

It's been done before, can't quite remember the details though. I think the radiator needs to be mounted at an angle like the FC. Custom mounts and hose routing, and you probably will need an electric fan. All of this, of course, depends on the amount of clearance you have. Have you searched the forum?

It fits fine. *The S5 is the better fit of the two because the S4 has the long extended filler neck. The dimensions are very close making it fill the shrouding good so the air passes through the radiator and not off to the sides. And this is not mounting it at a angle, straight up and down just like the 1st gen radiator u'll be taking out. I used my 1st gen metal brackets and mounted them to the side of the 2nd gen radiator which was real easy, no need to explain and then it is a bolt in fit. To get the brackets off the 1st gen radiator I used a dremel because they are brazed on which then ruins the 1st gen rad. If you use the S5 radiator the fan shroud fits because the stock mounting points are on the 1st gen metal brackets that you'll be using and that long *** filler neck isn't there. If you have a S4 rad then try a heat gun and some cutting... but be careful, I broke/cracked two shrounds trying to make it work on the S4 rad or you can go with an electric fan, yet another task in itself. Oh yea the coolant hoses are no longer going to work. The autoparts store had a universal type I used on the upper an lower. Just bring a piece of the orginal hose to make sure you get the correct size vs making more then one trip.

if you want to angle it that works fine too. granted you make your own mounts, but the stock 12a clutch fan is fine to use, just get the fc shroud as well.

I'm going to attempt to angle mount an FC radiator in my first gen and use dual MR2 fans.

I fitted a 2nd Gen to my 85 GSL, easy job, the biggest issue was finding hoses to work, just sketch them and go check out all the hoses at Adavance or Zone, used a flex hose with internal spring on the bottom as it is very close to the engine mount, by the way the rad is straight up and down.

doesn't using the stock brackets make the radiator hang to low, like where it could get hit... thats why i decided to make a custom bracket and sit it in there diagnol
