2nd gen dashboard into 1st gen.

Hi...i know it is possible to put 2nd gen dash board into 1st...but could it possibly be done without having to cut both end?

i send my first gen to a workshop..to put the second gen dashboard... (the 2nd gen dashboard is not in good condition...the light button etc all gone... u know where can i buy the dashboard button..etc...)

But the main problem is.... he already cut buth lef end n right end of the dashboard... so left n right aircond wont be available.

if any of u can post a 1st gen using 2nd gen dashboard photo....... i try to find but no luck.. thanks in adbvance

Don't worry about the English. It isn't bad at all, really. So, what is the reason for using the 2nd gen dash. Do you just like it better or can you not find a 1st gen dash in Malaysia? I don't know of anyone that has done this, so I don't know if you will be able to get the answers that you need. I think that the 2nd gen dash may be too wide to fit, but I don't know for sure.

I would just use the 1st gen dash. It would be a lot easier. If you do use the 2nd gen dash (or need parts for the 1st gen dash), you can check the for sale section on here. There are many people selling parts from 1st gen and 2nd gen cars. The problem is that most of the people are in the USA or Canada, so shipping will be expensive.

Good luck. I wish that I could help you more. I could find a picture of a 1st gen dash and a 2nd gen dash if that will help you out.

wow....thanks for fast reply!! i change because i really like second gen dashboard. Later i will post the photo of my car..its in workshop. Using 13BT !!

lotsa stuff missing from the dashboard...the aircond grill... a/c button... etc.
It was my mother car... had it since 1980. i wanna restore it n use since its fast n cool!

Rite now im trying to figure out... about the a/c.. cos the acond from 2nd gen come from the door...if u understand. From the dashborad..it connect to the door.

n im tryng to find the MAZDA words n RX-7 logo to paste on the body ...just painted it black

Okay. I understand the problem. Maybe you could modify the part where it would connect to the door on the 2nd gen. Perhaps you could make a vent from another car fit in the hole with some modification. You will need to change the direction of the vent, because now it faces the door. Another way you could do it is to just block off and disconnect those connections on the end. You could just let the AC go through the center vents.

If you modify the outer vents to work, I think the hardest part will be to make the modified part of the dash match with the rest of the dash. If you know of someone that is good with fiberglass and making custom parts, you could probably do something like this.

Put up some pics later and we can see if anyone has more ideas on how to make it work.

hmm

I think you should just run the a/c vent under the dash facing the floor the **** pit isnt that big to begin with so it should cool quickly. and it saves you loads of time & money. and i agree your english is good.

Well first ask yourself, do you have experience taking dashes appart and reassembling everything. If the answer is yes, you would have to be crazy to take on such a challenge.

But it would be cool if you could do it in the end. The wiring, and mounting of it would just be a PITA if you ask me...

You may need to grab the door panels from a 2nd gen and modify them to fit the 1st gen doors. I know the vents you are talking about, it's going to be a bit of work. Good luck with it.

I don't think it's any of the above models seeing as it's an SA/Series1. On a side note are you the guy looking for a C/Fiber hood?

Go Go custom Fc doorpanel installation . it will complete the look of the FC dash.
Dashboard looks like S4 Turbo

S4 is the early 2nd gen cars ('86-'88). In North America, you could get them either turbo or not. In some other parts of the world, I believe that only the turbo version was available.

It's a SA. He said the mother car is a '80 model. I think the second gen dash is a cool idea. I think it's even cooler that it's right hand drive! Keep us posted on the progress.

For the emblems, look here: http://www.mazdatrix.com/n-7.htm You can buy new ones there and will also show what each one looks like. You could probably also get them from a Mazda dealer in Malaysia or possibly Australia or Japan. Maybe would be cheaper than shipping from the US.

Maybe you can get the vents from a 2nd gen car and mold them into the door panels. That is probably the easiest way to make it work.

People find thing cool that are different than what they have. In the US (and most of the world), all of the cars are LHD, so people see RHD cars as being cool. Perhaps it is the opposite in your country.

Good luck.
