2nd gen carb Q

I just bought a 1988 6 port with a mikuni carb, and i just got into the whole rotory thing and i love it........ My question is, at idle one of the two intake barrels on the carb sucks in alot less air then the other one. do you guys think i need to just get the carbs rebuilt or do you think the engine has somthing wrong with it, the car does seem to pull hard through the RPMs, it makes me think that it could pull alot harder.....any type of feed back would be great.

Thanks Cyrus

Interesting. Check the compression on your engine to see if maybe one of the rotors is low. Each barrel feeds one rotor, so focus on the side and rotor that is affected. You might want to check for a manifold leak around that side of the carb too...

you may need to cynk the carburator..the tool is called
a uni-cynk, to equel both sides of the carburator

You can't go to the 2nd-gen forum asking about carbs because it turns into a flame war...

you can go to www.mazspeed.com That is full of guys mostly running mostly older rotaries with many different carbs. I got lots of help from them when I was putting the '86 13b into my '74 REPU with a Weber side draft carb and an '83 rx7 electronic ignition system. the forums are located on the super garage or something like that.

Redlyne, like I stated before, if one of your rotors is not seeing adequate levels of compression, the carb barrel that feeds that rotor will not be able to draw in much air. To do a compression test on your engine, use "search" and look for "compression check".

The only other thing that would diminish the amount of air drawn into the tip of the barrel would be a (air) leak somewhere between the tip and the engine. Check the engine to manifold gasket, the carb to manifold gaskets and the manifold/carb itself. Look for air being drawn into the system...

Good luck. If you have any questions, PM me.
