2nd/3rd Gen. seats in a 1st Gen.
It appears that several 1st generation owners have made this change. Any tricks or major modifications that need to be made? Thanks, Bill

Look for the user "rotary emotions" , he has FD seats in his FB, he's made a custom rail for the seat, he can explain how difficult it is.
I think FC seats will fit with much trouble

FC seats are basically a bolt in change, all you need to do is take the left rail off the original driver's side seat and swap it for the same rail on the FC seat. The passenger side one fits in with no fiddling.

Yup, you got it. But 79-80 1st gens are called SA's. You should feel smart, you deduced that on your own. Oh and mucho more info is in the FAQ sticky at the top of the 1st gen forum.

Hmm, wish I would have known that. I just slotted the holes with a dremel a little farther on the driver's seat rails (FC) and it dropped on after that. 89-91 seats here too. Very nice. I stay in place a lot better now due to the extra bolstering. Only problem I have with them is the front of the seat sits a little higher and where my right leg would occasionally rub on the bottom of the steering wheel before, now it is always against the steering wheel and can make braking a bit adventurous at times. I'm going to be getting a new steering wheel, hub, and spacer so after that it will no longer be a problem and I'll actually be able to heel/toe too!

They don't.
FD seats have the mounting holes in completely different locations.
FC seats will bolt in without troubles if you swap rails or use FC rails and slightly modify (although I'm not sure how much need there is for modding, as some claim it wasn't needed at all) but FD's are a pain.
I have had all generation seats in my car(s), so I know.
To get the FD seat is you'll need a way of connecting the seat to the rails. I did this by making a frane rome flat steel, and welded this to the SA/FB rails. In this the holes for the FD seats were drilled. Sounds easier then it is, as I had to make sure everything was alligned and seats would be straight.
The passenger seat cannot be done that way: it has one rail angled due to the transmission tunnel. The only sollution here was to mount the "frame" to the floor at the inner side, and to the rail at the outer side. This way the passenger seat is fixed. No problem, since the rear seat went out during the interior build up, and therefor the fixed seat is just in the far-rear position.
check my garage ( https://www.rx7club.com/vbgarage.php?do=view&id=22499 ) for pics of the car and interior.
