It's somewhere in the air/fuel delivery system or possibly spark system for sure, because I can't see it being anywhere else from your description.

If you've rebuilt the carb and you're quite sure of your craftsmanship than I'll believe you on that. The next things to check are your fuel pump and filter, your timing and your mixture. If your carb is rebuilt and running properly, your spark is there when you need it, the fuel filter is clean and you're getting enough gas, and your mixture isn't too rich or too lean, then I have no clue!

do a regular tune up, spark plugs, oil, coolant, fuel filter, timing, belts, air/fuel, everything. Just eleminate the obvious causes.

Check your leading ignition too. Sometimes they will run ok at higher rpms if the lead ignition is out, but really suck at the lower range. Also, if this is happening, the engine may seem to be hotter than usual even though the temp gauge reads fine (lots of ticking after shutdown). Good luck.

yeah, i am pretty confident in the rebuild, i'll do a tune-up on her, and see where that goes.... Also, one more question, the two vacuum lines on the dist....... can i get rid of those, or are the some kinda vacuum advance, and the purge valve for the oil (on the spout of the filler neck) should i leave that hooed up, or can i just stick a small filter on that and be okay

did you set your floats to spec, if float levels too high it will cause a rich condition @ low rpms which will cause it to spit and stumble and backfire.

haynes manual tells you how to measure them to set them to factory specs. yea you can remove the vacuum lines on the distributor it is a vac advance, lots of opinions on this, some like it some don't.
