2nd to 1st gen-er - got some questions

Some of you may have seen my thread on my 2nd gen rx7 that i totalled and currently facing charges for. The weeks following the accident i was pretty put off by cars but now that a bit of time has passed, i'm back in the game.

1st gens, my friend who convinced me to switch from honda crxs to mazda rx7s have once again convinced me to switch from 2nd gens to 1st gens (as he's a 1st gen freak). I'm located in socal and have a few rx7's lined up to check out. One's for sale for 600 bucks but has a problem with the carb, something to do with float level, he said the gas going into the engine wouldn't stop so the engine wouldn't start. as for anything that costs more than 1000 (my budget's around 1500, more money means longer time to save up), things look a bit better.

ON the other hand, if i fly up to norcal, i can find pristine 1st gens for around 1500, which i can drive down to socal.

opinions? suggestions?

thanks

The carb has a return solenoid on the left side, about center. There's a single wire clip coming from it that needs 12v when the ignition is on. If it has no voltage, the bowls will overflow into the venturi's. 99.9% of the time, that's the problem. 10 minute fix, running a new wire from the fuse block, or tracing the wire to the fault, and it's all fixxed. I'd buy it.

I can't help with the problem since my FB doesn't have a carb, but personally I'm really happy I made the switch from a second gen to a first gen. Much more of a raw, go-karty feel to it.

wat a bastard huh, my first rx7 i bought was supposed to be 400 but it dint start, so i got it started(needed a starter) and he boosted it up to 800 and almost wanted to keep the car but i told him before i could get it running, if i could get it running he has to sell it to me.hesaid fine for 800. i hate it when people do that but i was happy anyways.
