The car won't take part in any competitions just yet, I just want it for a track day trash machine, so me and the boys can have some fun during the summer before we're all reigned in by our better halves and married! We've lost one already (Phil) although his misses makes me dinner in a tupaware box so I can go staight from work to the workshop. I can't begin to thank her enough for keeping me fed. String is next, hence the stag do in May and everyone is looking at me to finaly close the deal on a 6 year long relationship with my girlfriend.

I left the workshop at midnight tonight in an attempt to have the floor ready for paint tomorrow. It will be an early start to get the last bits of welding done, but I reckon I can get at least one coat of paint on by the end of Saturday. The labour of love aye... Sunday is a no no as that's girlfriend day, so it's grit and determination time.

Looking forward to posting some pictures of a painted floor tomorrow night

YYYEEEEHHHHAAAAA we did it! The floor episode is over! Massive sense of relief. So glad it's in paint. We're going to give it a second coat on Monday night. The paint gun was a bitch to setup with the super thick floor paint but Phil was the hero of the hour. Somehow with some **** twiddling he got it to throw paint at a phenomenal rate. Stu and John were down today doing the last of the panel making and cleaning. A chapter of the build is complete and I'm over the ******* moon.

Rollcage has most of the tubes in now, door bars, roof bars, front and rear hoops, dash bars (oh which are completely and totally acurate to take the clocks and heater matrix/blower with no measurements taken!), turret bars... mainly needs stitching in now.

Third link is done, welded on to the diff with one hell of a nice bracket. Anti roll bars are powder coated, suspension is mainly cleaned up, need to weld on new spring seats to the struts for the manta springs. Rad brackets are in, work on the tank and rear diffuser has started.

We're getting there!

Looks like its starting to come together. What tubing did you use to fab the roll cage?

I'm back.... what the ****!?

Went straight from the Alps to the workshop, didn't even get changed, was still in my snow boots!

I just can't believe how hard they have all worked on my little race car. I'm speechless. I guess you really find out who your mates are when they pull something like this off.

The only trouble is I have no idea what I'm doing now! Time to catch up

The tube is all CDS of differing diameters and wall thicknesses as appropriate for each application to FIA specifications.

She's a propper cage like!

Smile The Full Story

Hi All
Thought I Might Add A Comment Or Ten On The Hugeness Of Our Undertaking (and Ive Only Known The Full Story 5days .28days To Build A Racecar - To Race An As Yet Halfbuilt Fd Trackcar (mine).
The White Beast Came About As Matt Needed A Rotary Racecar, Fullstop.and I Wanted A Trackday For Me Wedding ,good Excuse Then ...this Blokes Been Tinkering, pit Crewing/mechanicing And Modding Other Peoples Rx7`s For A Long Time, mine Included , Although Im Lucky Enough That I Get To Do Mine With Him As Mates , Finite And Matt Go Way Back When , And They Modded Up Finites Fc T04 In The Same Way(rip),big J Had An Unmodded Fb(rip) And Stueys Not Got The Rotor Bug Yet But He Will .and They All Needed A Car For Me Stagday Trackday,on An Airfield,or So I Thought....only They Didnt Tell Me This Was To Be A Shakedown Weekend As 4days Later Theyve All Chipped In To Take Me And The Fd,the White Beast, and A Scooby Estate To The ""nurburgring""for Me Proper Stagday...now Thats Mates...and Thats A Dream Come True...ffs Finite Traded His Car To Get The Scooby With Trip In Mind..
So Thats A Fair Few More Miles And Alot Of Hard Driving After Such Short Builds.but We`ll Do It I Reckon.in Style...
So You See Its Not Hard To Understand Why After Finding Out Ive Spent 27hrs Over Easter Inme Workshop With Finte, big J And Stuey Building Matt A Oneoff Cage And Dash...and Matt Did 11 Hrs With Us After Stepn Foot Back In Blighty,2 Of Which Spent Wandering Round The Car In A Daze And 9 Making A Panhard Rod System, and Alot Of Coffees And Shmokes....
We F*kn Love It..hope He Did.

we had to speed up progress some how! It was the only way I could think to do it... telling string (BREED) that is! Looked like I awoke the beast... like I said to Sharon... "How the heck do you keep up with him 24 hours a day? I tried for five days and it nearly killed me!"

Sharon: "He's a driven man!"

Made me smile!!

9th and 10th August. Looking forward to this year

The 6 port 13b is a great little engine. Been running one as a daily on LPG all be it with too small a TB but its quite a capable little motor.

Will make a very fun trackday car.

just a little update. Been beavering away on the dash and the shell, getting it ready to take gauges/paint etc. Got most of the suspension ready. Going to get the engine tomorrow. Should be ready to paint the engine bay and fit the subframe by the end of the day. Hope to have the motor in by the end of the week. String sorted out the coilover conversion and did a beautiful job of powder coating the struts. I've fitted new adjustable Koni dampers and I'm going to get some 10.5 inch 325 springs.

I almost thought i was missing something because it is RHD then realized you are in the UK.

Lookin pretty good so far. The quasi rotor shaped cover in the center is kinda cool (im assuming its not there in every car but ive never looked behind the dash yet)

all the tubes are "extra" we completely stripped the shell and then string welded in all the new niceness. The rota shapped centre console was just the icing on the cake

Nice work macca and JP, dash looks ace!!

And when are we doing my strut conversion eh?? ;o)
