20b conversion, plus other questions.
Is it possible to do a 20b conversion on a 1985 GSL 12a engine???
If so, where can I read up on how to do and what I need to do it?
Also, I just picked up 1985 for parts. The clutch is gone, but the previous owner said it ran good before he parked it.
My question is: The car won't start, the starter cranks, but the engine won't turn over. Is this because the clutch is gone?
I've been racking my brain for days now and can't seem to come up with anything, except that the engine is locked up.
Any help would be really appreciated.

Cranks but doesnt fire up?
Are you getting spark?
Are you getting fuel?
Could the engine be flooded?
Pickup a Haynes first and go through its general help section or whatever its refered to as
Off-topic, are you new to rotaries?

The starter cranks, I don't get anything from the engine itself.
So, naturally, I'm not getting spark or fuel. And as far as the engine being flooded, I can't say, b/c I haven't been able to start it up. Regardless of that, I don't smell gasoline and the plugs were dry when I checked them.
I have a Factory service manual, and I've checked the troubleshooting section. And, most of what I've experienced can be routed back to the clutch. I just wanted to check back here to see if anyone else has experienced what I have.
And off-topic: I've owned my first RX-7 since April of this year. Before I bought it, I'd never even heard of a rotary engine. So I guess you could say I'm fairly new to them. That's not to say that I'm not mechanically inclined though.
The way I see it, rotaries really aren't that differen't than your average cylinder engines. In my humble opinion, the concept is actually alot easier to follow and learn about.
So, yeah, by comparison to most, I am new, but I already know quite abit more than your average joe does. But, I've got a long way to go, learning more every day.

when you say"the starter cranks but the motor doesnt spin"...can you actually hear the starter winding?and turning?,if so,i would check the flywheel to see if the teeths are worn(that will cause the starter to spin without turning the engine.
Also try turning the motor from the front crank pulley by hand, just to see if the engine is not siezed.
To see if the flywheel is gone, take the starter motor out and have a look inside that hole where the starter was,...can you see the teethes grinded off?
