I'm chasing the same problem. A few things that Ive tried:

1. Outright idle ajustment. Pain in the *** because the idle screw is buried. Burned my hand and gave up, gunna try it again soon.

2. Vacuum leak. $10 in hose and an afternoon got me all new vacuum lines. Didn't fix the problem, but needed to be done.

3. Choke linkage. I'm trying the simple stuff first.

4. A/C idle compensator. Turn your A/C on, if the rev's drop youre fine (the A/C is slowing the engine down) if not then that is a problem.

5. Altitude compensator. Sterling suggested this could be an issue. Again its rather tricky and I want to try the simple stuff first.

I'm going to suggest 1-4.

use a looooong screwdriver to adjust idle, and a flashlight to locate the screw.
