2 questions.
Ok i have 2 questions for you guys.
#1: Block heaters? I have an 84 GSL-SE, and I have to drive it in the winter, the candian winter. And i live in an apartment without underground parking. So Did they come with one and mine doesnt have one or can I have one installed?
#2: If im planning on rebuilding my 13b with 12a irons, or T2 irons, would i have to buy 2 rebuild kits or just one?

#1: i've seen kits for this yes. they're old but come up on Ebay every now and then. it's funny seeing someone plug their engine in to a cord in the morning
#2 depending on who you get your kit form... you could probably talk with them about that and set it up to where you get what you need in one shot.

1- Yes, very possible and I would say feesable in that climate.
2- You cannot mix irons and housings from pre 85 cars with 86 and later cars. For instance, you can't use 81 irons, and 88 housings. In 86 mazda changed the o-ring lands, and won't work on pre 86 cars. If you want to build a 85 or earlier 4-port 13B, use -SE housings and 12A irons.
For the answer to the kit though, you should just need to buy an 85 SE kit and be set.
Don't forget, if you build a 13B SE motor with 12A plates, you're going to need a different intake manifold, and you're going to have to plug the injector bungs if you plan on going carb.

Hmmm, my 12a had a built in block heater (plug in on the side of the housing that warmed the coolant inside). Mine did not work so I went searching for a new one. I went to Weber motors (you should know what i'm talking about since you are also from E-town) and picked up a aftermarket block heater.
What it consisted of was a metal coil that went over top of 2 spark plugs on the housing of your choice, and heated the coolant up through the exterior of the housings. This might be your best alternative, it doesn't look really pretty, but sometimes function should be more important than appearance.
