Hey guys I have two questions that are bugging me. First why is it necessary to balance the fywheel and counterweight together after the flywheel is resurfaced? I know there is a balance weight built into the flywheel, but if you are removing an even layer of material shouldnt the flywheel/counterweight retain its balance? Next question is I am putting a used 12a in my friends FB and I just discovered that the rear rotor has about 1/3rd the comp. as the front. I pulled the back plate and found that one of the apex seal springs was broken, I fixed the problem with a used spring that I had. Now the problem, although the coolant O-ring are for the most part intact, I dont think they will hold up very long by them selves. Can I "seal" them with some Hylomar or another gasket sealant? Or can I buy the O-rings seperately? (Not in the kit) cause I only need the two.
Thanks, Jason

You are probably right on the flywheel, but if there is a chance of it not being balanced it could happen. I would do it for good measure. On the O-ring, the sealant idea is definatly questionable. www.Mazdatrix.com or www.Racingbeat.com might sell the rings individually but I'm not sure.

umm the fly out of balance thing happens because cast iron, in fact any steel isnt exactly the same density throughout, so you may have heavy or lightspots, but usually when just refacing a flywheel if its scored or anything minor, rebalancing isnt necessary.
and as for the water o-ring, I have asked this kind of question before on other forums, and apparently people have tried it before, and even though they do not seem to have been disturbed, one of the other 3 o-rings will probably fail in a short time.
and with the chances of that happening, I would pull the engine down properly, that way you can inspect the front rotor for any possible damage as well.
but if you can get a single water seal, go ahead and try, but be warned it may fail.
