2 bbl carb conversion? (Searched)

My dad's in need of a carb. since the idiot he got his '82 from ran all sorts of nasty crap through the gas tank. He can't decide on whether to rebuild his Nikki (sounds like a nightmare!) or to custom fabricate a 2bbl adapter plate to fit a 500cfm 2bbl carb. Does such an adapter exist? I can't seem to find any. And, what do you think the better idea would be?

Sorry to sound like a dorf with all the questions, just trying to help the guy out. Looked all over, couldn't find anything helpful. Thanks.

Search on Weber, Dellorto, Mikuni. They're all 2 barrel carbs that can easily flow whats needed. A stock port 12a maxes out around 465 cfms if I remember right. Also Racing Beat and Mazdatrix sell kits and intake adaptors for these Weber type of carbs.

A modded Sterling carb maxes out around 465 cfm, the stock Nikki is much less. Best bet would be to rebuild the Nikki along with cleaning out the entire fuel system. If the tank is full of crap/goo, drop it and take it to a radiator shop where they can boil it out and reseal it if needed. While the tank is out, replace all of the 27 year old fuel hose, fuel filter and possibly even the pump. Spray carb cleaner/ cleanerbrake clean through the steel fuel lines, then blow out with compressed air.
