1st for Road Courses

The Cincy RX7 Club is looking to build a 1st gen (most of our cars are FD's) for tracks like Mid-Ohio. The plan is to buy a 1st gen and install a new engine, suspension, brakes, 4:88 diff., rollcage, etc. The car will be trailered and not used on the street.

Has anyone built or modified a 1st gen for this application and can provide some idea of the cost. We believe we can do it for about $7,000 (including price of car). We're not too concerned about the body, but the chassis has to be good. The price estimate includes $1500 for the engine and $1400 for the 4:88 diff.

I haven't personally built a FB racer, but I've seen a few. Seems to be straight forward. I bet you could do it for 7k

Many many people have done it. The race car section of the board would be a much better place for this thread, maybe a mod should move it over there.

Sweet.

Well, the cost will depend on how fast you want to make it. My Spec RX-7 racecar cost:

$1500 good street car
$1500 spec parts kit (cage, suspension, harness, etc)
$ 450 Momo Rookie seat + custom install
$ 250 Safequip fire system
$ 300 new oil cooler
$ 150 new radiator
$ 300 new control arms, tie rods
$ 200 clutch
$ 150 clutch MC and SC
$ 700 Diamond Racing wheels and Kumho V700s
$ 300 Autometer gauges (water & oil temp, oil press)
$ 200 rebuilt stock carb
$ 250 Hawk brake pads
$ 250 exhaust

I'm sure I missed a few things, but figure $6k+ for a reliable, safe track car.

what group are you looking to run with? 7k can get you a nice track car built up... Nothing ground breaking, but plenty to keep you going.

If you are serious about building a 1st gen track car, you should really start keeping your eyes on the classifieds at
http://www.grmotorsports.com/

and check into the packages for all the spec 7 stuff if you're on a budget...
