1st Gen Troubles

Hey i just bought a 1st gen rx7 and im havin a bit of troubles,
1)i bought the car with out starter installed and am not sure as to wich terminal on the back the + wire goes 2, i hooked it up to the one i thoght and the ignition wire i thought and nothing happens when i turn the key, the starter doesnt even try to turn the engine over
2) as soon as you turn the key to ACC the carb starts to fill with gas, about half a centimeter, into the larger ports on the carb, i dont know if this is normal as i have never owned a car with a rotary engine. nor am i firmilar with carburated engines.

Any help would be much appreciated

That's the fuel pump. Your floats are sticking on the carb. They are supposed to cut gas off via a needle valve when the float bowls fill with gas. They're stuck. Lightly tap the top of the carb with a wrench and they might become unstuck. You probably will have to rebuild the carb, $30 in parts, easy to do. Fix the carb! I caught mine on fire because the floats were sticking. Search for an older post by me about it, it's pretty funny.

best advice I can give you on the starter, is get a haynes manual.. it's kinda hard to describe without pictures

Hot WIre it... Just bridge the Blue and Red wires (Colors in my diagram.) together for a seccond... It should crank...

Screw driver works well to just touch the connectors.. Be careful not to touch between the red and any other metal though.

sounds like a new starter is a good idea.

1.) Jack car up. Be sure it's in NEUTRAL!
2.) Short the wires as stated above.
3.) While running the jumper from the red wire to the terminal where the blue wires goes, give the starter a good whack with a small sledge or dead blow hammer.

Should go... Temporary fix should get you around for now.
