I've had my se up to 136 but I ran out of road. I think it could at least do 140, maybe a little more.

Your average Civic tops out at about 127, though the speedo may be showing 140 or more.

Mine tops out at 90. Speedo pegs at 120.

I don't like having the boinger above 4.5K RPM too much.

Man thats terrible. I was refering to new EX models, I got the numbers from C/D. Whats wrong with revving a boinger? Espcially if it has a 9000 redline like the S2000

125 and solid as a rock. That is pre turbo of course.

If 1st gen guys want to go fast, they had better have ground effects. Too much turbulance.
I would have to agree with NOTA. His car is pretty stable at high speed espically compared to my 1st gen '85 GSL with stock trim. THe front ground effect must really give a advantage to the car. However my mod'd '88 N/A feels really safe at 135mph with all stock trim.

I was very alert to the '85 GSL when I took her up to 130MPH. It takes a while but still was accerating. Mildport engine. I haven't had the guts to find out what the bridgeport will do yet. he he.

damn your nuts, although come to think of it I have done some what the same thing in my dads Vette. He has modded the hell outta it. It does 130 in a heart beat, puts my 7 to shame, but he also has about 5 times as much hp. Oh yeah it was 125+ in a 30 heading for a 50. Wanted to see what she could do.

Ha, funny this topic should come up. Got a call from my guitarist friend yesterday saying he needs someone to drive him up the coast to play a gig. He got asked to fill in for some band who was missing their guitarist.

Anyway, the drive home was about 1.5 hours of near straight two lane highway at 1AM with barely another car on the road. Perfect time for some top speed runs.

I took it up to redline in 5th gear with about 220kph showing on the speedo. I've done the calculations for my gearing (4.44 rear) and tyre size and the actual speed is about 230-240kph or 150mph. The reason the speedo was showing lower is because I have a ratio box to correct it but it's a bit inaccurate.

It pulled up to those speeds pretty easily and the car felt very stable so I don't know why some of you think the Seven's not suited to high speeds. Rice Racing's had his first gen up to 200mph.

Correction: I just did the math again and it's about 145mph.

with the right rubber, they are definatly suitable.. the reason that i donot do that much high end driving anymore is because of my dry rot bicycle tires that are on the seven

it is possible

145+++ MPH
yes car was lowered big time about 2" of the ground. Panasports 13" with really low profile tires and a front air dam...tested plenty of times with other newer cars nexto to it. Car had about 180hp or so. without air dam car was very unstable and hit about 135 only.

Here's the formula for anyone who wants to work out their actual top speed as opposed to what the speedo says.

mph = (rpm x tire size) / (gear ratio x 336)

tire size = diameter of tire in inches

gear ratio = tranny gear ratio x diff ratio

336 is a conversion factor

BTW, the Haynes manual states that 5th gear is 0.825:1 Does anyone know exactly what year models that applies to?

If anyone can hit 140 on the speedo, I'm impressed. I was going 130ish and that was basically red-lined (almost) in 5th. I didn't think it had any gears left after that. I kept expecting the buzzer to go off.

I belive Racing Beat took their HIGHLY MODIFIED
1st generation out on the Bonneville Salt Flats
(Where all high spped records are done)
and achived the grand total of 183.904 MPH

So... I don't believe you, and I don't think you should believe him either.
You sure you don't mean 200 KilometersPer Hour?

Oh by the way when you want to see what Kp/h is in MPH just divide km / 1.6

By the way, isnt the record for an Fd around 250?

They probally have a highly modified 20B into a 1st gen chasis and everything is tuned 100% and not orginal...

I see it being possible..

Keep in mind RICE RACING's 1st-gen has a 500-590bhp turbo 13B in it and is modified for circuit racing

Directfreak you say you had low-pro tires on it... did you have the speedometer corrected afterwards? Also was the speedo accurate in the first place? (the '80 would register 70-75mph at a true 60mph, with stock size tires... basically I drove it off the tach and ignored the speedo)

Please get your facts straight before calling someone a bullshit artist. Rice Racing has had his turbo 1st gen up to 320kpm or 200mph. With the appropriate gearing of course.

And BTW, that RB land speed record was in 1978 you dim wit!!! It says so in big bold letters on the top of that picture you posted.

BTW I have a stong feeling that that LSR car had a NON TURBO engine. There are specific classes for speed records, rigidly defined by displacement, body type, type of fuel, aspiration, and probably driver's blood type.

Yes, he does some circuit racing with his car but it is devoid of body kit and the suspension is based on the stock design. I posted the comment about the speeds he has done in response to people saying the 1st gen is too unstable at high speeds.

LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE LOL Im just playing, anything is possible and I see it possible. Just everyone knows what I mean, get in a stock Rx-7 and except 200mph, aint gonna happen, even if you have the HP to do it. There are tons of other variables
