Question 1st gen steering.

I think you all can admit that the stock steering on a 1st gen is pretty (gay) so I was wondering if the rack and pinion system of a 3rd gen would easily work in a 1st gen.

There's a company that makes a rack-and-pinion conversion for 1st gens. It's reasonably priced too, I'm sure someone in the 1st gen section must know the company.

BTW, your steering is mostly just worn out, I didn't have any steering problems when I owned my '79 several years ago. Very tight and precise for a recirculating-ball rack.

One rule as an FYI, please...Do not post the same subject twice...if it was done inadvertently, then learn to wait patiently as the servers crunch your post or reply. They are due for an upgrade and have been slowing down...don't just keep hitting the "enter" button thinking your stuff isn't uploading...

X, if your done whining, let's just answer the original post. Do a search on the CP Racing rack kit and you'll find mixed opinions on the value of the kit. You may want to look at just going in and tightening everyting in the steering box (there's a page listing how to do it, just don't remember where. Try the FAQs).

Now, now....let's not friction from the DoO spill out onto this friendly Forum.......bbuutttt, since we're there already....I take it, then, that you approve of the double posting and multiple threads on the same subject posted the same day by the same person??....Really??

Ever hear of the saying, "It takes a Village to raise the Child."? We are all responsible and should always act....down with EM!!

The Gen 1 steering is reasonable if maintained. The comment above is to http://www.mazspeed.com/steeringgear.htm.

I suggest you try that first, think at length about the cp modification, never think seriously of the gen 3 as a possibility.

Well.

If one were to get particularly nitpicky about the situation, it was mar who was whining about the double post.

At any rate, you really didn't give any answers to the guy's question that weren't already posted in this thread, so I wouldn't get too uppity about the whole affair.

It seems that the internet has sufficiently eroded language comprehension to the point that sarcasm and a touch of humor are only recognised when accompanied by a host of smilies, just to ensure that the dimest of the dim get what you were driving at.

Often there is too much criticism saying go search. In reality this is ofter useless. The question was specific about using gen 3 parts, this 'does not compute'. Where are the expert responses to a valid question?

Sorry to waste your time with our stupidity. You can go back to your MENSA meeting now.

P.S. If your reading comprehension is up to spec, you'll note that my post was the only one that posted that there are some contrary opinions regarding the CP Racing kit. Guess you missed that as you mingled with the "dimmest of the dim."
