1st Gen shopping tomorrow!
Hey Guys,
So I'm going to be taking a look at a 'new' 1st gen (my first 1st gen) tomorrow, and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what to look at.
THe car I'm looking at right now is a non-runner (may be revived, apparently has decent compression). The pictures are here:

From the looks of things, the body is in good shape, but I'm wondering if there are any other places I need to pay attention to, other than bins, wheel wells, underside, and front frame rails.
The asking price is $650 CAD (565.32 USD) and that includes spare taillights, seats, LSD...
What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance,
Matt

I dunno Matt - maybe you guys need to pay more for your FBs than I do for my SAs but I have bought several clean, non-runners for $75-100. The car WILL have rust issues, they ALL do! Worse if its an Eastern Canada car. That's a given. No shots of the interior, but I am suspicious how good THAT can be if the guy paints alloy wheels RED :P For that kind of $$ I would want to be guaranteed a running, solid motor myself - otherwise : $300 max. Make the guy an offer, leave your number and walk away. Way too many nice ones out there IMHO-
either way good luck!

...meh, interiors are for people who like pretty cars... ..(also, people who expect to drive their cars in the near future....)
I think because of all the spares that are coming with it (forgot to mention a new set of strut inserts and some front struts, driveshaft, side windows, interior trim...) I'm gonna make him an offer for under $600 and see where things go... Wish me luck!
Thanks for the advice though, I appreciate it guys!

I know its been mentioned, but you cannot stress how much you have to be an *** about rust. Crawl all over under between behind anything and look for it. I pay more for no rust shitty paint cars that dont run over, good paint underbody rust, and running.

I BOUGHT IT!!! WOOO!!! YAY ME!!!
...sorry...
...anyways, I purchased it, $600, including all parts and accessories... and for the doubters, the interior was okay, a little bit messy, with a spare carb sitting on the passenger seat... (and one ripped door panel) ...also came with a 'new' set of rims (not red... (Stock))

WankelingBeer: ...what can I say, I'll try... but there are no guarantees that I'll be in Ottawa by the time this thing finally hits the road... (currently a University of Ottawa student... kinda turning me against the city of ottawa... )
