1st Gen Rear Seats
1st Gen Rear Seats
I'm selling a GTU and taking some 1st gen rear seats as a down payment. Just wondering what they're worth.
Should I put them in and have the only 1st gen with rear seats in town, or sell them because they're worth a small fortune. The only rear seat I could find was a "Shoot me offers" type deal.
What have you guys sold and bought yours for?

Consider them around the $150 mark. They normally go for around $200+ but that's not adding in the costs you'd have for pulling it, holding on to it, and shipping it.
As a former owner of a set of rear seats, Do not expect to use them. They are however great curiosity.
The problem come to kids. only a child can sit back there and car seats dont fit.

Last year I traded my rear seats for a set of nice condition bins and hardware for installing them. Rear seats in an RX7 are like finding a calf or something with two heads. It's a curiosity to be sure, but that doesn't mean people want to pay for it.
The reason I ditched them are really 5 fold:
1) They weigh more than the bins
2) They are uncomfortable even for children
3) You'd be a pretty lousy parent to trust your kid's safety to them. There are reasons why they weren't supposed to be installed on US cars.
4) Not having the metal frame of the bins was causing various grounding issues with the amps that are supposed to be grounded through it.
5) There were two metal brackets that were supposed to help keep the seat secured down, but they rubbed against the metal when the got loose and rust started that I'd never known was there unless I'd yanked the seats out.
The problem, too, is shipping them. Nobody wants to pay an extra $50 for you to box them up. You'd have to find someone local who wanted them more than just a "hey, I'll take them if your going to just throw them out" level.

when i shipped mine, i just wrapped them with thick plastic and taped the label to them. as long as they're well wrapped there is no need to box them up.
I had a set and took them out.

Sure get them, for some reason they're supposed to be worth some money, just don't install them. I had to epoxy shut the holes mine had.
