1st gen parts swaping question

I just bought a '82 gsl. I have a '85 gs. The interior sucks **** on the '82. I wsa thinking of switching everything over.

I did searching and found that everyone is saying that I would be better off taking the wiring harness for the '85 and running with that. BUT not everything is working on the '85.

Anyone know if the harness would mate up? I don't want to use the harness from the '85 cus its cut up like someones cheap coke.

I figure on trying to keep as much of the '82 wiring as possible. Some of the things that jump up at me are the locations of the switches for the headlights, mirrors, rear defrost, rear wiper (which I still haven't found.lol.. someone tell me where) I am not sure what else would be differnt, I am too freaking tired to think. We pulled the rear and intermediet rugs, the seats, the bin supports, rear piller interior panels. We got preaty far. Only thing left in the '82 are the dash and the rug under it. I am not sure where to start with the dash.

Anyone tryed to make the lengths of wires that connect to everything that changed from the '82 reach the '85 locations? you know.. for the headlamps and stuff..?

I am hoping that this will be possible. Should I even try it?

'82 has beat up burgandy interior.. '85's interior is allmost mint.

If it was me, I would leave the dash and pick up one of the dash covers from VB and paint the color you want. All of the other interior parts will switch over with little problem. You are looking at a wiring nightmare changing to the S3 dash.

Sit down with the FSM's for the 2 model years and compare the changes you need to make, before you start. If you're stubborn enough, it could be done.

I need a step by step guide to removing the dash, if I had that I could do it, quickly. I need to get this done soon cus I am about to have the car painted.

I don't hae time to get the FSM unless its something that I could download today.

Do then wiring harness for the 2 years have the same connection, as in plugs???

I don't know about the 82 dash but the 84-85 dash is a PITA. Took me 2 hours to take out and 10 to put back in. I am a slow worker though(****).

screw it I am jsut going to dye the dash black and move the rest of the peices out of the '85. I will still take that dash out. I just might sell it. Its freaking mint, ****. well... when I take out that dash I will have a better understanding of what I have to do, and wether I should go through with it or not.

I have an 83 that im slowly taking the dash out of. Its cold outside so I dont get to do much to it. So far its been a bitch to do. lotsa little nuts under the dash to undo. But I'm going to be moving the interior and all my performance parts to the 83. Not an easy project from what im being told. But the plan is to take everything 83 out and put everything 85 in. essentially strip it to a shell and start putting the 85 stuff in it. If it dont make the car go faster or it weighs it down its not getting transfered. Im also not emissions legal so that helps alot on the transfer too. Ill make an exception for the heater.

Rear window wiper switch on your 82 can be found in the panel attached to the center console armrest. It's is a rocker type switch.
