1st Gen drag radial question

For everyone who runs drag radial in the back, what are you running up front? Same brand, any specific tread pattern?

Uhhh, I don't see a ford 8.8 rear end in your mods list. Going by that, I would HIGHLY suggest you don't use drag radials on the stock rear end. You'll blow it apart in no time with that engine.

Anyway, for front tire I would suggest just a regular road tire in a similar tread pattern. Putting another set of drag radials on the front would be a complete waste of money as they would wear away pretty quickly.

Yep, I agree. I run a set of Toyo Proxies in the front.

If you want skinnies up front, you could always get an extra spare and put some decent tires on them. The stock spare tire is not intended for high speed or anything like that. Hinson Super Cars ran stock FD spares up front as skinnies on their drag car for awhile (they may still, but I don't pay much attention).

I am running BFG drag radials on the rear and just some Firestone higher performance road tires up front. Have not had any problems with the rear in my car yet and I'm running mid 12's.

How many 84-85 axels have you blown up from power?

I run a SBF 357W on 8.5" et drags and my SE diff has no problems and no whine, I have dynoed my car and I know it makes serious torque.

I run my 17" street tires up front when i'm racing, I know I should run biasplys but it feels ok with the radials up front.

One of the fastest guys on torquecentral.com runs 8 secs in the quarter with his FB and he says don't bother swapping the diff untill it breaks cos he was surprised how long it lasted before he swapped to a 9"

Torque Brakes the Trannies.

High RPM Drag Launches Break the rear. (6000 RPM+)

Automatic V8's don't break the rears.

I'm just going by what I've read. I've never personally broke the rear end in a 7 because I haven't driven one long enough to break it. Kinda disappointing actually, considering I've owned my 7 for 3 years now.

At the strip I run 26 x 8.5 x 15 inch Mickey Thompson drag slicks on the back and just run my normal radials up front. I have run some M&H racemaster crossply tyres on the front before and I didnt notice any difference from the radials to be honest with you.

I have run many low 10's at over 135mph with radials on the front and have never had an issue.
