Talking 1st gen distributor question

hi

i got a hold of a 1979 rx7 and it needs a new distributor so i got one off an 85 but it looks totaly different what would i need to do to put the 85 distributor onto the 79? the newer one has like 2 little black boxes on the side? and the older one dose not and the points in it look totaly different any help would be great thanks. also will an 85 radiator fit onto an 79?

I thing there is a write up in here on changing from points to an electric Dizzy. and the 85 radiator is taller than the 79. You'll have to get creative with the oil cooler under the radiator if you want to put that in your car.

Radiators are about $110 at radiators.com

Those little boxes are J109 'ignitors' for the electronic ignition. There's a writeup here someplace on converting from the mechanical points that were standard on the 79 to the later electronic distributor. You can also get instructions from www.mazdatrix.com for $5.
