1st gen beating smog system

This is a story about how the governemnt screwed itself three times over.

I've been having some idle problems recently and am pretty sure its a vacume leak somewhere. Anyway, I knew it wasn't going to pass smog when I had to re-register it. Sure enough, it didn't pass the test, it was off by 200 in idle HC.

Anyways, after some phone calls I was able to register it at my buddies house, he lives in a "farming region" where smogs aren't required. So now come off the rats nest, cats, and on go straight pipes.

The part I thought was funny was that now the government, instead of getting money from
-smogging the car at a government test facility $10
-the "in town" registration fee $57
-and the, now late, re-registration of $20-30

they got $40 for everything. I know its small potatoes for the government, but it was a victory for me. Too bad I can't fit, "kill mother nature" on a license plate.

My car just turned exempt here in NY. 25 years baby! And I've been polluting via that car for three whole years. I like to think my car is the reason all the people that follow me get high...
