1st/2nd gen Hmm?

well first of all someone told me about a 1st gen that his friend was parting out.. no one drives rx7's in my town so i dont see how the guy is parting it out.. but i went to look at it and its a 1st gen in very good condition.. alls i know is 'it doesnt run'.. i dont know why, for now until i talk to the guy im gonna assume that its flooded... and since theres no 'rx7 mechanics' around here the guy prolly thinks hes doomed.. im gonna ask how much he wants for the whole car... right now i drive a 2nd gen and know howto unflood it.. but i dont know howto unflood a 1st gen and the pics on rx7.com are messed up. can i get instructions and maybe pictures? and how will the power of a 1st gen compare to my 87 GTU?

I was just wondering why you were assuming that the thing is flooded?

In my experience a carbureted 12a first gen rarely fails to start due to flooding. Bad plugs(or other ignition components), and/or bad, corroded battery cables (or low charge on battery) usually are the culprit.

…Unless you are talking about a GSL-SE…(Then please ignore this post cause I know jack about them.)

Is it a 12a or a FI 13b?

Thumbs up GET IT!!!

Most likely, you can pick it up from him for a song. We'll help you get it running.

If it doesn't run, you can reclaim your investment by parting out to us.

The deflood is the same on all teh rotary engines. Shoot ATF into the plug holes. (It it's a carbed model, some people say dump ATF into the carb, but it tends to gunk it up unless you clean it right after.)

OK,,the 1st gens 12a is 100 HP,thats a carb engine,and i think the car weighs 2400,or so LBS. the 2ed gens 13b(and some 1st gens)are 134
HP,,,i;m pretty sure i'm close,,and the car weighs somewhere around
2600 LBS thats with F.I. fuel injection by design has better performance.
a lot more crap to go wrong and lots of plumbing. i have a friend with a
87 2ed gen,his car runs good and strong and will do 140 mph,,,right now,,it's fast,,my car 82,12a from a dead dig,is up and gone untill he
catches me,,more then a 1/4 mile,,then he's gone,,,i also replaced my
rearend for a disk brake,LSD,gsl rearend,,i'm not sure of the gearing
that may have something to do with it,,too

There are enough Missourians around that can help you get it going...

Unfortunately, don't think I'll be back to LOTO until the water is a WEE bit warmer. But can't wait!!

There is no power comparison. The comparison is in the handling. 1st gen are superior road handling gems compared to the 2nd gen even with IRS. My 86 feels like a truck compared to my 85, but my 86 will beat the hell out of my 85, with a Street Port & RB full header exhaust, in a straight race.

Any of my FC's would whoop my FB in any way shape or form. I spent over 2 grand on my 85 just to have my stock TII show it up.
